How to read this page

Everything here is reported as published, and none of it is a judgement about any school. The figures come from the Department of Education register, the Inspectorate and the published feeder tables, and they are reproduced as found rather than assessed.

Inspection reports age. Several of these whole-school evaluations are more than five years old and some are more than ten. Schools change principals, policies and staff; a report describes the school on the week it was inspected, not the school today. A dated report is not a worse school, and a recent one is not a better one.

Progression to third level is not a measure of teaching. It largely reflects who enrols in the first place. It leaves out anyone who goes to the UK or overseas, and anyone who takes an apprenticeship or a further education course, so schools whose leavers do those things in numbers are understated. Small cohorts swing it wildly: a school with thirteen leavers moves several percentage points on one student.

Distances are straight-line, not the journey. The real trip is longer, and in this city a river crossing can matter more than the kilometres.
